LET FREEDOM RING!!!

My golly gracious, where has the time flown?  Can you believe that it is 6 days until the big 4th of July, Independence Day celebration?  Here in my little burg, we don't have a celebration.  But, the neighboring communities have some sis-boom-bah fireworks and concerts.

My girls are having a small get together with friends and I wanted them to have something to decorate their door with.  I selected ScrappyDew's July 4th 2013 file.  It's a rather large sign, 12x22, and this file has many elements to choose from.  Here are the lyrics:

Uncle Sam and Girl--Recollections paper scraps

Phrases & fireworks--Recollections paper scraps, Petaloo glitter stack and DCWV glitter stack

Background paper--Karen Foster Design Patriotic Collage

I re-sized Uncle Sam and the girl to be ~6 inches tall.  (lot easier to piece together if pieces are larger) (***just a note, resize the entire file at the same time.  then your proportions will not be screwed up***)  Then let your creativity shine through!  Sure 4th of July is associated with the good ole red, white and blue.  But if you look I snuck in pretty purple and gold also.

So here are some pics and close-ups.

this is the inside of my front door

I gave each one of the figures a little bit of personality with there smiles.  The background paper really ties the whole sign together.

So from my neck of the woods to yours, Happy 4th of July.

Bright blessings, Jana

Just a note...

Hello everyone!

Did you all enjoy the blog hop last weekend?  Our design team is so creative.  A lot of diverse projects from all the designers.  It was a lot of fun.

Today I have a really cute purse note card holder for you.  Now I didn't design the purse.  I found the pattern over at the Team KNK forum.  This was posted by Deb M.  It is such a cute idea I had to give it a try.

But first, here are the project lyrics:

Fairy Flower Princess
Recollections paper in tan, bright orange, hot pink, lime green
Petaloo purple glitter sheets
Doodlebug Design Tangerine chevron orange glitter paper
DCWV Pocketful of Posies designer stack
K&Co. Embossed Specialty Papers

The first thing I did was make this project bigger.  The original is for 4.25 by 4.25 cards and I wanted A2.  (i think this is where i started having problems, my dimensions are off)  So I cut out all of my pieces and made the inside card holders.

Time to put this purse together.  The orange glitter paper has what is called a sugar coating.  Not one of all the glues I had would actually stick.
orange paper on reverse
OK, now what to do...(only had bought 2 sheets of this dang blasted stuff thank goodness)  Well, I went out to the garage and rummaged through the sand paper.  Found some fine grit and sanded all of the edges to get this sugar krap off.  Finally able with the help of Mr. Elmer to glue down the purple edges.  (had to sand off each and every area that I wanted to glue, big pain)

The rest of the purse went together pretty well.  Until I got to the placement of the enlarged pockets.  They just would line up right.  Finally got it to work.  Purse done and now on to the note cards.  Nothing really fancy, just nice every day cards.  BUT...I did find some tape that is double sided with a waxed paper backing that I put on the envelopes.  I really didn't like sending out a project that the recipient had to tape the envelope closed.

So here are the final project pics.

So I am finished with this project.  Now some important news.  I will be (in the coming weeks) re-designing the blog and adding some new places to see and read about rhapsodyonpaper.  It's time and I really need to add social media buttons for everyone.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Leave a comment and let me know.  Who knows, I just might mention you in a post.

Take care everyone, bright blessings, Jana

THE AMAZING BRICK PEOPLE BLOG HOP

I'm am just tickled pink that you have come to visit today!  The Brick People blog hop is fantastic.

You should be arriving from Angie's Blog

I have been challenging myself to step outside of my card making and create new and unusual projects.  (i get in a rut and just stay there if i don't)  So today's post has sewing and an applique made from a Brick People file.  Let's get started!

First, here are the lyrics:

McCall's pattern #2947
Kona Cotton fabric in Black~1 yard
Wright's Black Hem Tape
Egyptian STAR Cotton Machine Quilting Black Thread
Many assorted color cotton scraps (from my quilting projects)
Heat and Bond Lite

The very first step to this project is making the apron.  Get that out of the way first.  You need to have this completed so that you can iron on the applique pieces.

The next step is importing the Brick People file into your cutting program and making it the size your want.  Then, measure each piece and cut a square of fabric and apply the Heat and Bond according to their directions.  Next cut out the file piece using your cutter.  I used my Zenith Zing with a force of 80, 3 passes and just a regular blade.  I found that a really sticky mat is the key.  Also place the paper side up, just seems to work better.

After you have ALL the fabric pieces cut, you can start to assemble your Brick Person.

All pieces cut out on to appliqueing

Now, just start piecing together the Brick Person just like normal except instead of glue you are using your iron.  Position the first piece where you want it and follow the Heat and Bond directions.  Sorry I don't have pics of applying each piece (this would be a very long post indeed).

And now here is the finished apron!

The spatula is from the Grilling Dad file over at Scrappy Dew

I hope that you give this a try.  It's a great way to make a very special
