The glories of Foiling!

Hi there!  Welcome to my glorious adventures in the land of foiling.  Recently I was gifted with a Foil Master from my BFF.  It's made by the same folks that also make my Silver Bullet Pro cutter.  That's Scrap, Inc.  This is ONE heck of a foiling machine (did I say that it laminates also).  It has adjustable heat settings which I love.

I had been using a Scotch and a Purple Cows laminator.  The difference is amazing.  Shall we take a look?  Now for this experiment I wanted to foil overhead projector sheets so that the foil would lay over the paper underneath.  I have some purple foil from That's Scrap, Inc. and I have some Heidi Swapp MINC foil.  Here is what happened...

Heated the Foil Master to 180 degrees
Here is the design on the transparency

Covered the transparency with MINC foil

Here is the result after 1 pass.  That is when I decided to
run the MINC foil through again and again .....

This is the result with the MINC Foil.  This is
after running printed laser transparency through 3 times.
I turned up the heat to 199, and finally the Minc foil
was adhered without black spots. But look at how warpped
the color has become.  Not the nice silver color anymore.

I turned the heat down to 185.  A single pass through the
Foil Master.  (i used scraps) It looks beautiful.
No dis-colorations.

Here is a side by side comparison.
The foil from That's Scrap Inc. is sooooo much better quality (imho)  I will fiddle around with the heat settings.  Maybe the Foil Master was set to high for the MINC foil to handle.  I will try lower settings and see if I can salvage the foil I had bought.  Just need to place an order for more from That's Scrap, Inc.

Now this post is leading up to the Saturday post.  Come back on Saturday and see what I made using this wonderful new machine.

Lucky Girl!

We travel thought life, becoming dear friends with others and sometimes those friendships develop into so much more.  I am so blessed to have another BEST FRIEND that I turn to constantly.  We started out acquaintances 4 years ago and I really don't want to think of what I would be doing without her.  She encouraged me with my card making abilities.  She lets me rattle on about silly things.  She shares her problems and I share mine.  (Oh don't forget the recipes)  We are each others sounding boards at times.  But most of all....

MICHELLES MY BESTIE!!!!
One thing I do know is that I can't explain everything she is to me.  Sure she is a FABULOUS CRAFTER, DEVOTED MOM/WIFE and a WICKED SENSE OF HUMOR!  She's just my Michelle and I love her dearly!

Two weeks ago, Michelle sent me a tracking number for FEDEX.  I read the tag and the package weight was 17 pounds.  What weighs 17 pound besides a rather large breadbox?  She wouldn't tell me.  So the big day arrives and I get the package.

So is it a 17lb. bread box?

I see some purple material and it's a machine!

Oh be still my little beating heart!

It's the amazing Foil Master from That's Scrap, Inc.

I knew that it would heat up, so I made a
plywood base to protect the filing cabinet.
  Decorated it also!

So here she is in all her glory!

Michelle, I can't thank you enough for such a fabulous surprise.  Just wait until you see the upscale fancy cards I will be dreaming up.

So the next post will be about my hits and misses learning how to foil different materials.  I will show you all the details.

I love you Michelle!!!!

Bright blessings, Jana

Hidden Items Card

Boy Howdy!  We had a fantastic week over on the Facebook Rhapsody on Paper page.  (if you haven't visited, why are you waiting)  Congratulations are in order.  Kelli Smith won the 100 likes contest.  I sent out a very unique prize!  I have another contest coming up for the 26th of June.  So make sure you like my page so you get the scoop!  Here is the link...https://www.facebook.com/rhapsodyonpaper

Now onto the Saturday post.

I have a young man that dearly loves to get mail.  I have made him several cards over time.  It was time to create a happy summer card.  But this year I made one with a twist. There are hidden items on the front.  So here are the lyrics for this week...

~ScrappyDew Eye Spy File
~ScrappyDew Fossil Hunters File
~ScrappyDew Sun Kissed Summer
~Scrap Factory program Accessories Baseball Bat
~Dew Drop Stamps Facial Expression #1 and #2
~Paper
Recollections, American Crafts and DCWV Texture Stack
~Silver Bullet Pro 24" cutter
~Sure Cuts a Lot V.4
~Heidi Swapp Foil and Scotch laminator
~FONT USED ON CARD IS CALLED AMPERSAND

The card really is very simple.  Just made the Spy and Fossil hunter paper piecings.  Then came the designing of the extras.  I had some baseball paper on hand (baseball).  I made the baseball bat from Scrap Factory Accessories.  The dino prints I found in a bing search. The shell is a sticker and the sand bucket is from the library in SCAL4.

So here is the finished hidden object happy summer card!!!

The front
Here are the items he is to find

I even decorated the back with a solstice sun
I hope that he has fun looking for the items.  Did you find them all?

So Happy Summer Solstice.  I will have an additional post this week so be looking for it.

Bright Blessings, Jana

She is all dressed up!

The inside

I even decorated the back.

It's in the mail along with the Oregon Duck cards for her birthday present.  I'm very satisfied with the way the whole project came together.

Now next week I have a rather unique card to share with you.  Then I think a short and sweet project for 4th of July.  Then it's that time of year again...I have great intentions each year on getting my Christmas crafting done early.  We shall see.....

Football Time!

Hello and welcome back to the weekly Saturday post featuring ScrappyDew Files and the incredible Silver Bullet Pro.  So happy you have a few minutes to spend with me.  So for this weeks card, I have something a little different.  It's a set of 6 notecards that have a slider.  I have made these for the person that I credit getting me into card making.  She  is an avid Oregon Ducks fan.  But living now in Alaska, she has to send away for any Duck stuff.  So for the past few years I have been making her notecards for her birthday.  Here are the lyrics for this years edition...

~Turkey Bowl 2014 (it had the football I needed)
~2 shiny new pennies (card won't slide if the pennies don't shine)
~EK Sucess Round foam 3D stickies (.25 inch) and square ones
~Made in Oregon shop, Oregon Ducks Scrapbook paper
~Silver Bullet Pro Cutter
~Sure Cuts A Lot 4 software
~glue, scissors, my Epson printer and other stuff I can't remember

The card is pretty straight forward.  For the A2 card, I made the top 4.00 by 5.25 and the centered a .25 rectangle in the middle.  Welded it together.  For the words, I made the letters .25 high and then just printed them with at least an inch on either side.  Then cut the strips, centered them on the card base.  Next take one penny and using a glue dot attached the football.  Then put a 3D foam circle and placed it on the penny.  Now place this in the rectangle that is cut out of the special paper, take off the paper on the the foam circle and attach the other penny.  This is how the football slides.

(I REALLY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN PICS!  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE EMAIL ME)

Now take some 3D foam squares to prop up the special paper section.  Center the rectangle over the words on the base of the card and attach.  (maybe some pics would help)

I hope this makes sense

See the pennies make the football slide

the inside

A set of 6 notecard and envelopes

Yeah, that project is done.  I still have to make her birthday card.  Also on the agenda is a summer time fun card.  So still a lot of work to do.  See you next week!

Bright Blessings, Jana
