My Bling is back!!!

It's Saturday and that means time for a new project reveal!  Last weeks cards, while very nice and heartfelt, lacked a certain flair.  (which was extremely hard for me to do)  I hope I can remedy that situation with this weeks masterpiece.  I have a confession.  I love faeries, pixies, witches and mermaids.  So when I saw that SD (ScrappyDew) had a mermaid file I knew this was my cuppa tea!  First here is the link to the mermaid file
http://www.scrappydew.com/store/animals/sea_theme.php Aren't these just adorable.  So now on to the card.  I knew I wanted to make an Easel Card.  It would just fit how I wanted the card to work out.  BUT, with any plan, once I start working, the card takes on a life of its own. (sometimes screaming at me) I wanted an ocean background.  Do you think in all my stash I had a pretty ocean background?  Noooo.  So I just got out my watercolors and some watercolor paper and made my own.

I have always thought that a mermaids tail would be very beautiful and sparkle.  So I cut the tail with Zenith Zing and went in search of glitter.  Naw glitter isn't what I want, I want sequins.  (looks like a fishes scales)  I had a package of sequins that I bought a while back.  So with needle nose tweezers in hand, I glued each one on.

Now this is where being a big fan of SD is very helpful. I had purchased Under the Sea Palz 2  http://www.scrappydew.com/store/animals/sea_theme.php and being a very happy vault member I have the Sea Palz 2009 package also.  So now I start picking and choosing what I want to use.  The animals are so small.  No bigger than an inchie! (1x1) The sea kelp was 5 inches and then I found in my stash the letters and low and behold they were bubbles. (see how some cards just come together)  So here is this weeks masterpiece!
(take a closer look to see all the details)

Now for the next few weeks, I will be sharing elements for a Halloween project that will be revealed in all it's glory after labor day.  So it might not make sense right when I post but it's a doozie!

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to have a cuppa with me.  I wish you bright blessings and see ya next Saturday!!!  Jana

Men and their toys

Hey Welcome back!  It's been a few weeks.  ScrappyDew has asked me to post my creations on Saturdays from now on.  So please make yourself a little note, and then grab a snack and/or a drink and please spend a little time with me on Saturdays.  The closer to the holidays it gets the more creative (or slap happy) I become.  But first we have to get the summer birthdays over with.  Then we can start on the frantic holiday creating.

I am NOT good at making cards for guys.  Never have been.  (practice makes perfect, ha ha ha)  But I have two guy birthdays that are only 5 days apart. I have made race cars, under the sea and patriotic cards for these two men and I needed to come up with something simple but heartfelt.  I had purchased the ScrappyDew file Tool Box bundle package 2011 http://www.scrappydew.com/store/grown_up/  and thought I might be able to use it.  So here is what I created.

Using Make The Cut software, I enlarged the tool box to card size, duplicated it and welded together the two to make a folding card.  This bundle comes with fantastic tools and I picked some out and made sure that they would be large enough for the card.  After making all the tools the card needed something, not glitter but something.  So I grabbed a couple of brads, got my sharpies and colored them to match the card.  Then I cut off the prongs and used 3D foam squares to attached them like bolts.  Now for the inside.

I had taken pictures of each of the guys toys many years ago.  Thank goodness I never throw/delete pictures.  (another saving bacon moment)  I printed out the pics and glued each to the top inside of the correct card.  Took some corresponding card stock glued to the bottom half, embossed and attached the tools.  And presto chango my guys cards are done!

Short, sweet and heartfelt.  I think that I accomplished that.  Now I need to go make the huge batch of chocolate chip cookies for Bob and Butterscotch cookies for Duane.  Then I can call these two birthdays done for another year!

Next post will be something a little more my style with bling and sparkle.  May your week be filled with bright blessings!

BIGGER ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Deep breath, and here we go...

I have been asked to join a select group of crafters.  I am NOW officially a 'dewette' and will create for ScrappyDew!!!!!!!!  I am on cloud 9.  Now gang, this is not to be confused with a 'rockette'.  I mentioned to Michelle (http://www.michellemybellecreations.com/) that I could be a 'rockette' once. Then I would be in traction for 6 months, those high kicks are killers.  So happy to share this news, and it's not going to be just cards.  I have a few designs up my sleeve that will knock your socks off!  So lets get this party started!

We own a machine shop and an employee of ours had his neck fused in two places yesterday.  (he was just living life to fast when younger)  So I of course wanted to make a get well card.  I don't know if you also do this but I customize my cards to the person it is going to.  Maybe a special color, subject or occasion.  With that in mind, here's the lyrics.
  • ScrappyDew Get Well Soon and Yorkies #4 files
  • Dark Blue The Shimmer Stack DCWV
  • Lt. Brown & Tan Core'dinations Safari pk.
All other scraps are probably Recollections (but don't hold me to it)

Now me just being me, I had to be able to get some sort of glitter on this card.  I had a Color Bok Earth Tones pad that had the paper I used for the walls.  It Sparkles!  I think it makes a wonderful wall paper.  The rug was a challenge for me.  I wanted a braided rug but I couldn't figure out a way to braid paper.  So instead I cut out the main rug, then cut 1/4 slits through it right up to the top.  The light green is Mulberry paper that I found on clearance at Joann.  I cut 1/8th inch strips and wove them threw the dark green mat.  Just a word of wisdom, needle nose tweezers are one of my best crafting tools.  The rest of the card is pretty normal.  The dog at the foot of the bed is Monte Carlo (shop dog and usually in the grease)  Oh Oh, did you see the neck brace?  That was made out of a BandAid.  This inside of this card has a sheet of paper that matches the sheets on the bed.

So glad you could spend a few minutes with me.  I love sharing my work.  Please be careful this 4th of July holiday.  Fireworks and picnics are fun, but remember the actual reason for this holiday.  We are so fortunate to live in a free country. Thank you to all our service men and women.  You're the reason our country is so great!

With many bright blessings,  Jana
